Our Ovie community is loving how easy these little food sidekicks are to use in the fridge. They love how much food they're saving and how much money they're saving by using what they have.ย
For all of you who aren't in the know, we wanted to share the nuts and bolts to help de-mystify the LightTag.

What is a LightTag? ๐
LightTags are patented, re-usable food trackers that are based on time. They have an integrated LED light that changes color as time goes by (see below). All of the LightTag programming is done by interacting with the button on the Tag.
-
How do you connect LightTags to food? ๐ซ
Every LightTag comes snapped into a Connector. Connectors are the way your LightTag can stick to just about any container. They have a sticky-gel back that allows it to be removed and reused.
If it gets dirty, a little soap and water will refresh the stick.ย
It's extra sticky at first, so don't be concerned if it's a little tough to remove.

How do I set LightTags? ๐
You're in control of your tracking. When you decide how many days you want to keep track of a food, simply push the Ovie button one time for each day.
You'll see a dark blue blink each time you push the button. After a second or two, your LightTag will confirm how many days are being tracked by blinking once per day that it recorded. If you pushed the button 4 times, you should see 4 teal blinks.
-
Can I reset the LightTag? ๐ค
If we didn't get the number of days right or when you're ready to turn your LightTag off to set again, hold down the Ovie button for about 3 seconds until you see 2 dark blue confirmation blinks.
This means your Tag is off and ready to set again.ย

How do I know how long to track food? ๐ง
LightTags can you keep track of just about anything that's perishable or time-sensitive. We're asked a lot about the "right" number of days to track something. While it's up to you, we also really like resources like the FDA's cold storage chart as a quick reference.
You can find it here: https://www.foodsafety.gov/food-safety-charts/cold-food-storage-charts
Even with tools like LightTags and food safety charts to lean on, always make sure you agree with recommendations and how long you track something.
Your LightTag can be programmed for up to 30 days and a lot can happen to food during that time.
We continue to offer up new suggestions and tips for food savings that you can find on our site here-->

What do the colors mean? (Hint: It's like a stoplight) ๐ฅ
LightTags don't just light up, they blink!
There is a simple color coding system programmed into LightTags and a blink pattern for our color-challenged friends out there.
More than 1 day left in the tracking sequence:
Light Color: Teal
Blink: "average"
Less than 1 day left in the tracking sequence
Light Color: Yellow
Blink: "rapid"
0 days left in the tracking sequence
Light Color: Red
Blink: "slow"
Confirmations when setting, turning off or turning on
Light Color: Dark Blue

LightTags actually stop lighting up
LightTags are designed to stop lighting up after about 20 seconds each time they're triggered to conserve the battery. To see the color again, just push the Ovie button once and the lights will show you a blink for each day left.
-
How do I know how much time is left?
When you're wondering how many days you have left in tracking, simply push the Ovie button one time and it will respond with one blink per day in the color state that it is in.ยExamples:- If you push the button and it responds with 3 teal blinks, there are 3 days left.-If you push the button and it blinks yellow once, you're in the last day of tracking. -
Can I change the battery?
Yes. LightTags are designed to allow for an quick change in battery so you can keep them in the rotation and keep tracking food.
LightTags use the CR2450 standard coin cell battery. They're super easy to change. See details here-->
You'll know know that it's time to change the battery when you try and set LightTag and it does not respond with the number of days sequence of blinks, but shows you dark blue blinks instead.ย
